Parallel

Parallel is a documentary photography project made from inside the building where I live: St Catherine’s Place. It was once a shopping centre and council flats. Now it is being rebuilt into privately owned homes while people still live and work there.

I began photographing the site because I became interested in how redevelopment is not only seen in architecture, but felt in everyday life: in noise, dust, routines, temporary fixes, boarded-up areas, and the quiet sense that home can become provisional.

Through photographs of residents, workers, and the changing fabric of the building, the project brings different lives of the site into conversation; the shopping centre, the council housing, and the new private future being built over them. At the same time, it reflects a more personal transition, asking what it means to live inside a place whose future seems already decided.

The work is ongoing and continues to develop through photography, archival research, and the changing life of the site itself.
